Cervical Disc Replacement

Microspine Scottsdale offers cervical disc replacement. But what is cervical total disc replacement (TDR)?

Cervical disc replacement is a surgery that replaces a damaged disc with a new one designed to preserve natural motion. This procedure helps prevent collateral damage to the levels above and below, a common issue in spinal fusion surgery.

Ideal Candidates

  • Patients who have not found relief from non-surgical measures for three to six months.
  • Those suffering from spinal stenosis, pinched nerve, herniated disc, degenerative disc, or spinal arthritis.

What to Expect with Cervical Disc Replacement

The surgery can often be done on an outpatient basis. We use real-time navigation as well as spinal cord and nerve monitoring to ensure the utmost safety for the patient.

After surgery, patients are typically allowed to resume normal daily activities the following day. You will be prescribed medications to help with pain and enhance healing.

Recovery and Rehabilitation

  • Low-impact exercises are recommended initially.
  • During the first two weeks, patients will gradually increase activity levels, with continued increases between two to six weeks.
  • Physical therapy may or may not be needed depending on progress.
  • Most patients feel close to normal around three months post-surgery.
